[JM-107] Black Star - Canal D'Julinha

Found this record quite some time ago at a flea market in the north of Rotterdam. The sleeve looked promising; 4 funky guys in front of the Euromast, this has to be good!
The record ranges from Calypso, reggae, soul and afrobeat . Couldn't find any info on this band..If anyone has any info please let me know! Enjoy!!!

Karel Messemaker - Please Stay [TBL 4436]

This Dutch private press (KaMessMusic) release came to my attention because of the gear list on the back of the sleeve. Polyphone & Monophone synths and Yamaha Rhythm RX drums. Sounds promising :) Google search didn't deliver any information on this album... Here are the 3 standout instrumental pieces.  Enjoy

[WEAL 18393] Cliché – Blue Bird

Great Belgian disco 7" I found a couple a weeks ago at a second hand store in my old hometown. The A side doesn't do it for me, but the B side "Sexy Girl" is sexy indeed and super catchy too! Re-edit by Loud-E in 2007. Enjoy the original here.Discogs

[MFP records/Doglau Records] Pop Jawa

Found a bunch of Surinam Jawa pop records at a second hand shop here in Rotterdam. Usually this shop only has stacks of James Last records, tons of classical music and even more Schlager compilations. So i was quite happy to find these. Didn't really know what to expect but the titles seemed Indonesian and since my girlfriend is really into Krontjong music I didn't have to think twice about picking these up. And am quite happy about that. Some of them I didn't enjoy that much (I've listed them on ebay now). But the ones I posted here are really nice. It's mainly soul with a krontjong vibe and even has some funky synth bits! If anyone has more information about these artists or labels please let me know.
More info:

Enjoy!!

[Novoton IST 103] Carissima - Bubu

Synth record I found some time ago. By Reinhold Sobotta of the German Krautrock band Birth Control
The record includes what for me personaly is best described as 80s sitcom/tv show library music.. So if you ever feel the need to get that kind of vibe in your home while cooking, cleaning, doing dishes or whatever, here's your chance. Enjoy / Buy

[FAC Records - FLP 011] Quicksilver - Calypso King Of Aruba

Because Iam re uploading and sorting out the rest of the blog I found this rip i did some time ago and apparently forgot to post.. It's a great calypso record. By Quicksilver who calls himself the Calypso King so it has to be good. Enjoy!!  Discogs

Prem Bissumbhar ‎– For You From Me For Always

Here's a record I bought at a local fleemarket a few weeks ago. Mainly picked it up because of the sleeve as usual ;) On the sleeve it says "This record is played by only professional musicians" so my expectations were high...But I'am not so sure what to think of the music. It has some nice arpeggio synth parts but overall it's a bit cartoony imho. But still worth a listen..I guess..The guy who sold it to me had some other great records (mainly reggae, soca, calypso) of which i will share some in the future.
Can't find much information about this record or Prem Bissumbhar except for this discogs link.
Enjoy

[VR 0131089] Mario Mathy – Dreamscape

Found this album in a second hand shop in Belgium and mainly bought it because it has a dude sitting inbetween a bunch of Casio gear on the cover and on the back it says that the whole album is made only with Casio gear. The album itself is 80s electronic music a gogo from ballads to italo disco-ish, new beat-ish tracks. It doesnt get more Euro sounding than this. I never heard the name Mario Mathy before but it seems he has quite alot of followers online there's even a Mario Mathy Revival Society on facebook and a hyves fanpage. It seems he did some comeback shows in his own snackbar a couple of years ago. I also read on one of the fanpages that his music still gets used as background music on several pirate radio stations.
Enjoy!

[FAC 034] Al Wilsin & Hendro Cat Rickett - Mellow soca

Nice soca 12" i found at the local buy & sell record shop.
Side A is a bit standard soca tune (nice though). The B-side "Mellow Dub" is my favourite. It's basicly the same as the A side only less vocals and some popcorn-ish synth on top which makes it a keeper for me :) enjoy!

[BAN 14755] Israeli Disco Fever

Naya Zamana - Naya Nazrana - Music Of The Year 1987 - Volume 1

I found this record yesterday at a local secondhand shop and just had to share it with you!
The record got my attention cause it had a really diy design, the notes on the sleeve are almost all handtyped and mainly consist out of advertisements of local video & music shops, video rentals and traveling agencies. When i got home and listened to the record i got even more enthousiast cause this drumcomputer driven 8 tracker is quite funky and has some awesome synth parts on it! Enjoy!!

[PB-7691] Natura / Carlos Attias - Supersonic Man / On My Way

Found this 7" a couple of months ago on a market in Barcelona. Mainly bought it because of the nice sleeve. I never heard of this movie nor did i ever hear this track but after hearing the A side (don't like the B side that much) and seeing the trailer i need to get my hands on a VHS of this film. The track is amazing and will stick in your head for days !
enjoy!

First i have to say sorry for not including this whole e.p, not sure if it's only my copy but it skipped alot eventhough the vinyl looked mint, so i guess it's a bad pressing.. wich is a shame!

Surinam/Hindustan Record with great synth parts. Mainly bought this because of the picture of one of the musicians sitting behind a Roland Juno 60.

[6005 269] Soulful Dynamics - Dying snowman.

Ok i know this isn't going to be the best post on my blog (especially since i havent posted anything for such a long time) but i couldn't resist buying/posting this. The cover is great and in combination with the lyrics it's even greater. Only shame is that the music isn't really doing it for me :P

Puppet covers

I Have a thing for puppets ehm well covers with puppets on them. And last queensday (traditional dutch holiday where most streets turn into a giant fleamarket) i found some nice ones.
I guess they're Argentinian. This one is the "best" one it's called "Mis Canciones" the cover has a quite disturbing mouse on it the recording is as disturbing and sometimes even annoying, But it made me laugh a few times even though i couldn't understand a single word they were saying. If anyone has more info or even videos of this character please let me know :) enjoy?

Second one is less disturbing and to be honest i'am quite happy that someone else took the time to rip this, after about 25 minutes of "Mis Canciones" i think i had enough :P But if you're up for more get it here

Călin Ioachimescu / Şerban Nichifor - Oratio II / Magic Spell / Miss Christina (Excerpts) [ST-ECE 02108]

Experimental neo classical record from Romania on the Electrecord label.
Main reason for me buying this was the great cover artwork combined with the information on the back that there was an ARP synthesizer involved in the making of this record.
The Domnişoara Christina (Fragmente) track is just amazing. Quite a dark atmosphere (synth & traditional instruments) combined with a whispering female voice, a really beautiful piece.
The other 2 pieces are nice too more abstract classical music but less synthesizer in these two though.

A little bit more info on Discogs

Enjoy!

Monroe - Polio for the people [SHOL2740]

Bought this 7" when i was about 12 years old in the local secondhand recordshop in Middelburg (portobello) . I bought it cause the sleeve and te title made me laugh. Later on i discovered this band was from the same area as where i grew up and saw their singer (Jaap Van Boven) play several times with his punk(cover)band Swindle. The copy i bought had already quite a few crackles back than and nowadays it sounds like it's recorded next to a campfire :P but still i think it's worthwhile to share especially the B side disco fever wich after all these years still is the A side for me. oh and Polio for the people skips once :S (damn) anyway... enjoy

"Legendary punk-rock cult-band from the Netherlands (Vlissingen, Zeeland), fronted by singer Jaap van Boven. They only released one single (Polio For The People / Disco Fever)in 1978. The single was very controversial. Around that time there was an outbreak of polio in the orthodox-protestant community in the province of Zeeland, because they refused vaccinations because of their belief. The picture sleeve showed the band around an open grave, with Jaap taking a crap on the coffin. “Is God your Shepherd, who commands… The Wheelchair dealer rubs his hands” is a classic line from the song’s lyrics. Jaap van Boven would later re-emerge in several other bands (such as Het Elektrisch Combo) and is still active in the local music scene." from http://www.last.fm/music/Monroe

Ken Freeman on Moog synthesizer - Infinity+One [OM 36.104]

Very nice moog 7" from 1973 by Ken Freeman. Iám still searching for a copy of his KPM library release "handplayed by robots". enjoy

"Ken Freeman (b. 1946) is one of the pioneers of electronic music. A band member in the 60s, he spent the early 70s building the Freeman String Machine, which can be heard in albums of the day from art rock (Pink Floyd) to soft pop (David Essex). A prolific session and touring musician, he has also worked with Francis Monkman, Mike Oldfield and the theatrical music composer George Fenton. His keyboard wizardry is also present on Jeff Wayne's 'The War Of The Worlds'. 'The Tripods' is probably his most important work of the 80s, but he contributed title music to several other programmes, most famously the enduring BBC drama series 'Casualty', and later 'Holby City" (from http://www.discogs.com/artist/Ken+Freeman)
